# Connecting LinkedIn

> Connect your LinkedIn ad account to Alva, choose the account Alva uses, and keep the connection healthy.

An admin connects LinkedIn once, at **Settings → Advertising**. After that, anyone on your team can ask Alva to draft and run campaigns on the ad account you choose.

## Before you start

You need these in place on LinkedIn first. Alva can't create them for you.

## Connect your account

**1. Open the advertising settings**

Go to **Settings → Advertising**. Only admins see the **Connect LinkedIn** button; other team members see a note that an admin needs to do this.

**2. Sign in to LinkedIn**

Click **Connect LinkedIn**, sign in with the LinkedIn account that administers your Company Page, and approve access.

**3. Choose the ad account**

Back in Alva, the **Ad accounts** list shows every account LinkedIn returned, with its company, your role, currency and status. Click **Use this account** on the one Alva should use. It's then marked **Selected**.

## Reading the ad account status

| Status | What it means |
| - | - |
| **Active** | Ready. Campaigns can be drafted and go live. |
| **On hold** | Usually a missing payment method. Add one in Campaign Manager, then click **Refresh**. |
| **Draft** | The account set-up isn't finished in Campaign Manager. |
| **Cancelled** | The account is closed on LinkedIn. |

>
> You can draft and preview campaigns while LinkedIn has your account on a billing hold. Alva won't switch a campaign on until the hold clears.

If you add a card, create a new ad account or get a new role in Campaign Manager, click **Refresh** on the **Ad accounts** card (or ask Alva to refresh). You don't need to reconnect.

## Lead form fills

When the connection is set up for leads, **Settings → Advertising** says that lead form fills from this connection sync into Alva. If it asks you to reconnect LinkedIn to start receiving lead form fills, click **Reconnect LinkedIn** once. Until you do, form fills stay in LinkedIn.

## Keeping the connection healthy

LinkedIn access expires from time to time. If the connection is about to expire, or Alva can't renew it, the connection is marked as being in error and the admin who connected it gets one email. Reconnect at **Settings → Advertising** to fix it.

## Disconnecting

An admin can click **Disconnect** at **Settings → Advertising**. Draft campaigns stay in Alva. You can connect again at any time with **Connect LinkedIn**.

## What Alva can and can't do here

Alva can tell you whether LinkedIn is connected, list the ad accounts it can see with their role and status, explain a hold, and refresh the account list. Connecting, disconnecting and choosing the ad account happen on the settings page, so Alva takes you there.

* "I've just added a card in Campaign Manager. Can you refresh the ad accounts?"
* "Why is our ad account on hold?"
