# Making Calls

> Call prospects from your browser, with every call recorded, transcribed, and logged to the CRM.

Alva has a built-in dialler, so you can call prospects straight from your browser — no headset software, no separate phone, no copying numbers between apps. Every call is recorded, transcribed, and logged against the right contact and company automatically, so your CRM stays up to date without any manual note-taking.

Before you start, make sure your account has at least one [phone number](/calling/phone-numbers).

## The dialler

The dialler lives in the bottom-right corner of every page. Click the green phone button to open it.

* **To** — type the number you want to call, or have it filled in automatically with click-to-dial (see below)
* **From** — choose which of your [numbers](/calling/phone-numbers) to call from; your default is selected for you
* **Keypad** — enter digits before the call, or send tones (for example to navigate a phone menu) once connected

Press the green **Call** button to dial. While you're connected you can **mute** yourself, send keypad tones, and see a live call timer, then **hang up** when you're done.

<Note>
  Calls are paid for from your credit balance. If your balance is too low, the dialler will ask you to top up before placing the call. You can buy credits in **Settings → Billing**.
</Note>

## Click-to-dial

You rarely need to type a number. Wherever a phone number appears on a contact or company, you'll see a **Call via Alva** button. Click it and the dialler opens with the number, contact, and company already filled in — so the call is linked to the right records from the moment it connects.

<Tip>
  Click-to-dial is the fastest way to work a single contact. To work through a whole list of prospects back to back, use a [calling session](/calling/calling-sessions) instead.
</Tip>

## Logging the outcome

When a call ends, Alva asks you to log an **outcome** — for example *Pitched – Interested*, *Voicemail*, or *Callback Requested*. Choosing an outcome:

* Records the result against the call
* Adds the call to the contact, company, and deal timelines automatically
* Feeds your calling stats and reports

See [Call Outcomes & Insights](/calling/call-outcomes-and-insights) for the full list of outcomes and what Alva does with each call afterwards.

## Recording and transcripts

By default, every outbound call is **recorded** and **transcribed** automatically. (An admin can switch either off for the whole account in **Settings → Telephony**.)

A few minutes after a call ends, you'll find on the call record:

* **Audio** — play the recording back in your browser
* **Transcript** — a tidy, speaker-separated transcript showing your lines and the prospect's lines side by side

While Alva is still processing, you'll see a *Recording…* or *Transcribing…* indicator that updates on its own — no need to refresh.

## Finding your calls

### Call log

Go to **Calls** in the sidebar to see your call log — every outbound call with its contact, company, date, duration, outcome, and links to the recording and transcript. Click any call to open its full detail page, with the recording player, the transcript, and the linked company and contact.

### On contacts and companies

Each contact and company has a **Recent Calls** card showing the latest calls to that record, so the full calling history sits right alongside everything else you know about them.
